Seafood City is coming to Irvine. I had snapped a photo of this notice on the front door entrance when walking past it back on April 16, 2014.
Fast forward over two months later, and the sign is up. Part of the parking lot is blocked off to allow for work on this favorite supermarket catering to Filipinos and Asians alike throughout California, Las Vegas, and Seattle areas. The website also mentions hiring opportunities for a new store in Hawaii coming soon.
Seafood City is a supermarket with Asian and Filipino-influenced products, including fresh seafood, meat, produce, bakery, health and beauty, and other groceries and items. American groceries and products are available as well. Having been to the Seafood City location in Carson, CA numerous times throughout my life, I can say that it has a similar feel to 99 Ranch Market, but with many more Filipino foods and items to choose from.
Seafood City in Irvine will be located where Shoe Pavilion once was, next door to Joann’s, right along Barranca. It’s behind Walmart located on the corner of Von Karman and Barranca. I’ve been wondering for years what new establishment would take over this location, and I am pleased that Seafood City will soon be there to provide greater access to ingredients for Filipino dishes that I need to learn to cook from my mother-in-law! I imagine it will also continue to foster the growing diversity of this area and bring greater exposure to many wonderful things that the Filipino culture community can offer.
